Charpak-Ritz Prize

The Société Française de Physique (SFP) and the Swiss Physical Society (SPS) have signed an agreement to establish the Charpak–Ritz prize to distinguish advanced researchers, who made exceptional contributions to the development of physics in all areas.

The rules of the prize are:

  • the process for selecting the award winners start with the nomination of 3 candidates from one Society (the nominating Society). The other Society will then select the winner among these 3 candidates, based on the recommendation of its respective Prize Committee. The nominating Society will be represented by an observer during the discussion of the selecting Society;
  • in even-numbered years, the award will be bestowed to a candidate nominated by the SPS and selected by the SFP Prize Committee;
  • in odd-numbered years, the award will be bestowed to a candidate nominated by the SFP and selected by the SPS Prize Committee;
  • the decision of the award committee is final and no appeal against its decision is possible.

The award is doted with 3’000 € and the winner will be invited to present the work at the annual meeting of the other Society.
