The Swiss Physical Society (SPS) may award exceptionally good research works with prizes every year. With those prizes, outstanding achievements of young physicists shall be supported. The committee of the SPS acquires the sponsors and names the specific fields.
The application for the awarding of a work must be substantiated in written form. The work must be published or accepted for publication in a famous journal. The covering letter with the substantiation, the CV of the candidate, the publication as well as at least one expertise must be sent in triplicate (or electronic as PDF-file). The application will be delivered directly to the president of SPS.
The awards are given on decision of the award committee on the annual meeting of the SPS by the president of the award committee and/ or a representative of the board of management.
The award committee consists of at least 6 experts, whereas the sponsors as well as the board of management of the SPS are represented by one person, respectively. The president of the SPS takes the chair of the committee or may delegate it to an appropriate person.
The evaluation of the work is made by its scientific importance, quality and originality.
The committee may ask for additional explanations and comments from the candidate, as well as call external experts for consultation in.
The works handed in, must either be accomplished in Switzerland or by Swiss citizen abroad.
Under circumstances, not all awards can be given.
No notice of appeal against decisions made by the committee for the awarding can be given.
The board of management of the SPS calls attention to the awards in time.
This award regulation may be changed on application of the award sponsors or the committee of the SPS, on the decision of the SPS general assembly by a simple majority.
This award regulation was accepted at the general assembly of the SPS on July 14th, 2005 and replaces all prior versions.
